Between
emotions feelings we always consider the most common of them but what happen
with those we cannot explain? Here you have the names of those emotions and
feelings you always have but you didn’t know how to explain them.

John Koenigs invented a list with 23 words defining those feelings. He’s a designer, editor and graphic artist. He also has a web named Dark Pain Dictionary since 2009 in which you can find many emotions, feelings, sensations we cannot have a single word to describe them.
These are
the words:
SONDER
The
comprehension that each person has an intense and complex life as ours.
Sonder in
german means “special” in French is use to “explore”. Both meanings were used
to this word.
OPIA
The strange
need to look at someone directly into the eyes. It can give at the same time an
invasive and vulnerable feeling.
From the
greek “opia” plural of “opium” which means “of the eyes”
MONACHOPSIS
The subtle
but persistent feeling of being out of place.
It comes
from the greek “monachus” means “alone, lonely” + opsis “vision”
ÉNOUEMENT
The
bittersweet taste of having come forward, see how things went, but not be able
to tell ourselves how our past was.
VELLICHOR
The strange
longing for old bookstores.
It comes
from a similar greek word “petrichor” which is the essence of rain on the wet
ground.
RUBATOSIS
The
disturbing consciousness about feeling our own heartbeat.
It comes
from the italian musical term “rubato”+ “tempo” “stolen time”
KENOPSIA
The
overwhelming sad atmosphere of a place that is usually crowded, but now
deserted and quiet.
From the
greek “kenosis” means “empty” + “opsia” means “to see”
MAUERBAUERTRAURIGKEIT
The
inexplicable urge to keep away people, even close friends who we really
estimate.
From the
german translation means “builder walls’ sadness”
JOUSKA
A
hypothetical conversation that arises compulsively over and over in our head.
CHRYSALISM
The
mesmerizing tranquility of being closet during a lightning storm.
VEMÖDALEN
The Frustration
of photographing something amazing when there are already thousands of
identical pictures.
From the Swedish
“vemod” means “tender sadness or pensive melancholy”+ “vendalem” a name of a
Swedish city.
ANECDOCHE
A
conversation in which everyone talks but no one is listening.
ELLIPSISM
The sadness
about not having the ability to know how the story will end.
KUEBIKO
A state of
exhaustion inspired by the actors of senseless violence.
A Kuebiko
is a Japanese kami deity which has the shape of a wise scarecrow which is all
day long watching the world go by.
LACHESISM
The strange
desire to be the victim of a disaster - as capable of surviving a plane crash,
or lose everything in a fire.
From the
greek “lachesis” means “batch of waste” also Lachesis is the name of the second
of three destinations in ancient Greek mythology.
EXULANSIS
The
tendency to give up talking about an experience because people are unable to
understand.
An Adronitis
was a feature of ancient Roman architecture, a hallway that connects the front
of the house inside the resort atrium.
RÜCKKEHRUNRUHE
The feeling
of coming home after an immersive trip just to find out how quickly fades from
our consciousness.
NODUS
TOLLENS
Understanding
the history of our life ceases to make sense to us.
A Latin
translation means “the lump denies being denied”
ONISM
The
frustration of being trapped in one body, which is capable of inhabiting one
place at a time.
Portmanteau
of monism + onanism. In philosophy, monism is the view that a variety of things
can be explained in terms of a single reality or substance, or a different
source. Onaismo is a kind of monism, because his life is in effect limited to a
single reality by virtue of being restricted to a body, but just missing
something clearly.
LIBEROSIS
The desire
for things and situations we care less.
From the Italian
"libero", a member of a volleyball team which is a vital part of the
defense and can move more freely than other players, their mission is to keep
the ball in play.
ALTSCHMERZ
Tired to
the same old problems we've always had - the same boring defects and anxieties
that have been tormenting us for years.
From the German
alt "old" + schmerz "pain"
OCCHIOLISM
Awareness
of how small is our perspective.
From occhiolino
Italian "little eye" which was the original name given to the
microscope Galileo in 1609. It also means "wink" in Italian.
